What’s Manufacturing Process of Carbide Die?

Carbide die, also known as carbide cutting tool or carbide mold, is a material widely used in the field of mold manufacturing. This material is typically composed of tungsten, cobalt, carbon and other metallic elements to form an alloy with excellent hardness and wear resistance.

Carbide molds are widely used in metal cutting, injection molding, die casting and other fields to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing process and the quality of the product.

The manufacturing process of cemented carbide moulds usually includes the following steps:

Raw material preparation: Select the appropriate carbide material, usually an alloy containing tungsten and cobalt, to ensure that the raw material quality meets the molding requirements.

Powder metallurgy: Mix the alloy raw material powders evenly, and then compress the powders into billets through a high-temperature and high-pressure powder metallurgy process.

Sintering: Put the compressed billet into a high temperature sintering furnace for sintering. During this process, the powder particles bond together to form a strong carbide.

Precision cutting: Using a precision cutting process, the sintered carbide blank is cut into the preliminary shape of the mold.

Heat treatment: Heat treatment is performed on the initially formed carbide mold to improve its hardness and wear resistance. This usually includes heat treatment steps such as quenching and tempering.

Precision grinding: Carbide dies are precision ground using precision grinders to achieve the geometry and surface finish required by the design.

Electron microscope inspection: Use electron microscope and other equipment to inspect the cemented carbide mold to ensure that its quality meets the standards.

Assembly: If the mold is a composite mold, the different parts need to be assembled together to ensure that the parts fit together well.

Surface treatment: Surface treatment is performed on the mold, such as coating, polishing, etc., to improve its corrosion resistance and extend its service life.

Final inspection: Conduct final inspection on the completed carbide mold to ensure that it meets the design specifications and quality requirements.
